Rebalance Announcement

Major Game Balance Update Incoming

On the Mech Arena dev team, we're always striving to make the game an engaging and fun experience for all players.

For a while, some Mechs and Weapons have stood out as being more effective than the rest. Your feedback, and our in-depth analysis, has helped us to create a multi-phase plan focused on one goal: creating a dynamic battlefield that allows a diverse range of content and playstyles to shine.

Our goal is not to weaken your current favorite builds, but to raise up the rest of the roster so you have more choices in every match. Here’s what you can expect:

Step 1: The 4-Stage Rebalance

We're announcing a four-stage rebalance that will span November to February and target Mechs and Weapons.

  • More buffs than nerfs: This is a rebalance, not just a nerf fest! Expect a ratio of approximately 4 buffs for every 1 nerf over this four-month period. We are focusing on revitalizing current, underutilized content to make it feel powerful and fun.
  • Iterative adjustments: The nerfs will focus on tweaking overperforming Weapons and Mechs to bring them in line with other content, without simply just making them weaker. We will use careful, iterative adjustments and monitor every change, so we can react accordingly if needed. That's why some content may require more than one tweak along the way.
  • Transparency at every stage: We will inform you two weeks ahead of each wave, detailing exactly which items will receive buffs and which will receive nerfs.

We are committed to an approach that encourages you to try something new and provides you with more options on the battlefield, without driving out any of your existing, hard-earned content.

πŸ“† When?

The first stage of rebalancing will take place 14 days from today, on the 27th of November.

πŸ› οΈ What?

Two pieces of content will be nerfed:

  • Revoker: Damage (-15%), Optimal Range (-23%)

Dev Note: Revokers have long dominated the meta, preventing other weapons from fully realizing their potential. To finally give them a chance to shine, we are taking away a bit of damage and range from Revokers, making them a truly close-range weapon that requires better planning to close the distance to the target.

  • Hemlock: Daze Duration (7s β†’ 6s), Ability Cooldown (10s β†’ 16s), Daze & EMP Duration Implant (45% β†’ 30%)

Dev Note: Hemlock has long been an unrivaled controller, at times completely preventing players from taking action, especially in 2v2 and Hangar Showdown modes. To allow other Mechs a chance to contend with its charms, we've made it so that Hemlock cannot constantly keep a target β€œdazed”. This doesn't kill its potential, but now it will need to better calculate whom to target with the ECM shot ability and when.

Four Weapons will be buffed:

  • Howler: Damage (-18%), Reload Speed (5.7s β†’ 3s)

Dev Note: Howler's main problem was the insufficient amount of ammo/charges. We decided to allow it to shoot more often by significantly reducing its reload speed. Now it will be more like a hit & run weapon, and closer to our initial vision for this weapon.

  • Hellfire: Damage (+18%), Optimal Range (0-30m β†’ 0-40m)

Dev Note: Hellfire has good damage, but its main problem is range. Since we cannot increase the maximum range due to technical complications, we have increased its optimal range and damage, making it lethal at distances up to 40 meters.

  • Suppressor: Damage (+40%)

Dev Note: Applying Damage Drain status effect to enemies is good, but you also need to be able to outshoot those enemies. Initially, we intended Suppressor to be more of a support weapon, but it wasn't very popular with players in that role. So, we are adding a lot of damage to it to see how it will fare among other brawl weapons.

  • Savant: Damage (+82%), Double Damage Chance (50% β†’ 15%), Speed of projectiles inside one group of rockets (100ms β†’ 150ms)

Dev Note: Savant had great potential, but also a few significant drawbacks that overshadowed its advantages. It relied too heavily on double damage chance for dealing damage, and Mods negated this advantage. Therefore, we are transferring the damage from the double damage chance into more straightforward damage-per-magazine. Also, Savant's projectiles were fired too quickly one after another, often hitting a single layer of a Mod instead of destroying several. We solved this problem by changing the speed at which projectiles leave the magazine one after another, and now Savant will be significantly more effective against Mods.

➑️ What’s next?

We will announce the second stage of the rebalance 14 days in advance.

Step 2: Introducing Seasons

Once all four stages of the planned rebalances are complete, we will launch a new Seasons system in early Spring to keep the game feeling fresh year-round!

  • Temporary Boosts: Each Season will feature content that will receive temporary, transparently displayed Modifiers for the Season's duration.
  • Slowed Content Release: To support this plan, we are slowing the introduction of brand-new content and instead focusing our development efforts on refining the existing roster.

That’s all for today! We believe these changes will smooth out the current power gaps and ensure a constantly shifting, skill-based meta. Please feel free to ask any questions and leave your feedback!

I am all for balancing the game and I appreciate this. I've played a number of games that do this. However some do it well and the game succeeds, some do it poorly and the game suffers. The number 1 issue in these situations is players maintaining trust in their purchases. When players are not safe to make purchases without the fear of losing their investment, then the game massively suffers. Buyers need confidence. So PLEASE make sure that any nerf to weapons and mecs, that have been invested in, also get compensation to the owners. Changes can be great for the game but they really need to be done in a way that also provides value and the feeling of confidence with the players. Thanks.

This is a complete joke, it's basically fraud, as I recently just bought hemlock an ranked it up and I paid real money for the daze & emp implant, and now hemlock useless with 16s cooldown, they should not nerf anything that people spend real money on and just buff everything else up so it's better, that's it now I will never spend a penny on this game ever again so well done, you lost a good paying customer πŸ‘

It's only the free to play people that cry about revokers and hemlock, us players who buy things actually like them they way they are, I swear if they nerf mods then that's it I'll be deleting this game, only people crying about mods are the ones who haven't got them, mods should never be messed with, they're perfect as they are

Why don't you fix the blueprint issue at last? Or add chat in the battle while you're at it?

Hemlock changes a bit large. Perhaps they'll walk some of it back if it really makes it useless.

I laugh at the complainers saying the game is ruined and dead. If I had a dime for every such comment from every good game over the years....

The "I spent money and you nerfed it!" complaint, and "it wont be fun anymore" (if my weapon/mech is no longer unfairly stronger), well couldn't everyone who bought a weaker mech/weapon cry for their money back because it wasn't what they expected? I want my A-coins back from Hanger because I lost going up against Hemlock or revokers! Get real.

i have revokers . there cool.! i dont need them and i dont do the most damage with them. And it doesnt bother me a bit to get killed by revokers.  it sucks they are going to weaken them.

What i have a issue with is the freeze weapons ,like cryo launcher.  i hate them with a passion.  i personally would never buy them or use them.  And if i did i would have to call myself a pus$y.  Because thats how i feel about all the people that use cryo launchers.  that must suck when your game skills  are so bad that one must turn to using freeze weapons to make yourselves feel better .  thats all i have to say today.

Cryo launcher users are pus$ys ! That  also applies to any current or future freeze type weapons.

OH MY GOSH, FINALLY! Thank you, these are much needed changes. Here was my initial post on the Revokers:

https://forum.plarium.com/mech-arena/702_game-discussion/1717852_for-the-love-of-all-that-is-holy--nerf-the-revokers/

I have since begrudgingly been forced to use the revokers to remain competitive for hangar showdown...

@floo and others following, my thought since posting that was actually to make the revokers do half damage once they go "through" an opponent. I feel as though this is a more elegant solution than straight damage reduction. Here's why:

1. It would make back hits actually do more damage like every single other weapon in the game incentivizing proper strategy with Revokers.

2. Normal hits go from 3x listed damage to 2x listed damage (33.3% reduction) but back hits go from 3x to 2.5x (16.6% reduction)

3. This could also be paired with a 16% damage INCREASE so it becomes 22.7% less on front hits and only 3.7% less than current damage on true back hits so it would be more appealing to players who have spent a lot on upgrading Revokers than the current plan.

Other thoughts:

- Hemlock is a much needed ability nerf.

- Howler reload is a great change, but damage reduction seems a little aggressive.

- Hellfire is a much needed damage buff.

- Suppressor buff is needed but 40% seems a little high.

- Savant changes are great too.

Overall great work here guys IMHO

Frankly, mods are also op, they need to fix the damage redistribution in something like canopy, it should have an absobtion, and perimeter as well. Also making it available to all players maxed out or not is usefull.

Mods were a mistake that they will probably never admit to.

On that note, I saw in an interview video that Eclipse and Surge are also going to be nerfed. I really hope they know what they're doing. Big parts of what makes them so strong are mods and revokers. I hope they understand this and are cautious about what and how they apply the nerfs. They are going overboard with Hemlock changes that are extreme (in my opinion) and that doesn't bode well for other mech nerfs.

To partly explain why I say this, consider Zephyr. Even at around 2k-3k SP, the Zephyr was quite underwhelming with close quarters weapons. Once I got revokers from an ECR (at 3 stars, not even the default rank 5), my Zephyr was notching up kills and MVPs just like Surge does. Would I look at my win rates and MVPs and conclude that Zephyr was OP and needed a nerf? Of course not. I ask the devs to keep that in mind and be careful in future mech nerfs.

Edit: Of course I'm not saying Eclipse and Surge are useless without revokers :-). Just that the game designers should think about all the factors that make them powerful when deciding their nerfs.
