If you have timber and bronze in your storage. You will not ask for it, you will ask for the grain of course. Write amount and put the request resources help.
Minus means that your production does not cover your usage. It's only about grain. For example, your soldiers are using grain, if you have a lot of warriors, then you might be in the situation that they request more grain than you have (looking at production)

if your rich fat buddy is a buddy indeed he will be helping defend your city, helping max out Coalition tournament rewards for you and maxing out coalition missions too to help you grow in the game, otherwise he aint much of a buddy
