The inquiry is for how many "concealed sapphires" there are. That has to mean partially concealed sapphires, because completely concealed ones cannot be counted. Starting at the right of the picture, near the upthrust sword, one sapphire is on top of another one, partly concealing it, for one. The front left spider leg of the priestess partly conceals three sapphires. Another leg on the same side partly conceals two more sapphires. The rear left leg conceals another, and the right front leg partly conceals one. So that's a total of eight.

I May not be the sharpest blade in the Scabbard but this may be one tricky Riddle...
So the riddle side of ME psyche tends to believe that there are no HIDDEN Sapphires... For All the Gems Be Cut in the classic Baguette style. If they were hidden wouldn't they be locked away under a strong Master-Smith's Finest Strong-Lock with YE only key secured in a Captain's Treasure Map behind challenges and Riddles that Only HE truly Knows.
But May hab this Old SEADOG BE thinking harder then a damaged Main Rigger and Shredded Sail desperately trying to tack into a dying Head-Wind while the wolves BE nippin'' on YE Bow.
But if One truly must count Ye Ill-Gotten Crystals then I say there BE...
