My issue isn't that you have to pay for events, but that the events are typically not worth the time and trouble.

Like at times, I can wait to upgrade artifacts, upgrade champions, or otherwise hold back on doing things that there could be an event for. However, during times when I simply run out of energy or coins, it is NEVER feasible for me to spend gems on the energy or coins, because the rewards for the event are NEVER worth it.  

Additionally, because of the lack of content and the resulting same events going over and over again, there are oftentimes events where I can't even bother participating, because I am still saving back up after the last event that was the SAME exact thing just days prior.

i didn't say that, they have to give as free things and we ll stop to pay for  the game... just to change greedy things like : 20 $ for 4 blue shards and 300 gems, it's not ok.  2 months ago i could buy for 19$ - 12 blue shards and 1 k gems.

and talking about  smart about summ event ... u are crazy af, what is smart about it? if  the price of  the shards  is  to expensive???
