5200 was just better, very complex controller and it had the newer games like Moon Patrol, Buck Rogers, DigDug and even Mario Bros. Not to mention the best game of all, Rescue on Fractalus (by Lucasfilm no less)
That is highly debatable. The 2600 was a revolution that took video games out of the arcade and put them into homes. It was a cultural phenomenon that introduced both kids and their grownups to home console gaming.
The 5200 may have been a technological improvement, but it didn't sell for #$%^.
You can buy 10 different versions of a Nostalgia-driven 2600-style Joystick loaded with old school games. I can't say I have ever seen a 5200 version.
