Mods Rework Announcement

Thank you for all your feedback about Mods! Your suggestions have been invaluable. We strive to make the game an engaging and fun experience for all players, which is why we’ll be making some changes.

Mods were originally added to expand build options and improve Mech survivability. However, we recognise the need to make the system more balanced and fair for everyone.

The rework will be released on April 2nd. Here’s what’s changing:

  • Mods unlock for Rank 3 Mechs: Mods will now become available once a Mech reaches Rank 3, regardless of when a player joined.
  • Lower prices: The price of obtaining and upgrading Mods for non-Legendary Mechs will be reduced to make them more accessible for early and mid-game players (Common -50%, Uncommon -40%, Rare -30%, Epic -15%).
  • Adjustments to multi-layered shields: Blockade ML and Perimeter ML Mods will have fewer shield layers, but the total Shield HP will remain the same. Minor balance tweaks may be made to this if needed.
  • Upgrades will be tied to Ranks: You will only be able to upgrade Mods up to your Mech’s Rank (e.g. Rank 3 Mech → Level 3 Mods; Rank 4 Mech → Level 4 Mods, etc.)
  • Resource refunds: If any of your Mods are at Levels that exceed your Mech’s Rank, the extra invested resources will be fully refunded and the Mods will be downgraded to meet the Mech’s Rank.

Please note that Tournaments will be temporarily paused, starting from March 31, and will resume once the update is live.

We hope this improves your experience in the Arena and we welcome any feedback you might have.

Dear Plarium Support & Development Team,

I am writing as a paying player of Mech Arena to formally express my concern regarding the upcoming Mods Rework announced for April 2nd, and to offer constructive suggestions that I believe would better serve both the player community and Plarium’s business interests.

CONCERN: CHANGES TO PURCHASED CONTENT

Many players, myself included, have invested real money into Mechs, weapons, and Mods based on their advertised capabilities at the time of purchase. Repeated rebalances that reduce the effectiveness of purchased content — including the reduction of Blockade ML and Perimeter ML shield layers — erode player trust and raise legitimate questions about the value of future purchases.

While I understand that Plarium’s Terms of Use permit these changes, I would argue that exercising this right repeatedly and without compensation is damaging to long-term player retention and the game’s reputation.

FAIR REBALANCE PRINCIPLES

I’d like to suggest that any future rebalancing consider the following principles:

1. Grandfather existing purchases — players who already own and upgraded items should retain their current stats, with nerfs only applying to newly acquired items going forward.

2. Offer resource compensation — if a purchased item is downgraded, fully refund the real-money value in premium currency, not just in-game resources.

3. Communicate change ideas in advance with a meaningful feedback window before rollout is planned.

ALTERNATIVE DESIGN PROPOSAL: COUNTER-MECHANICS OVER NERFS

Rather than reducing the effectiveness of items players have paid for, I’d like to propose an alternative approach to balance that I believe would also be more profitable for Plarium.

Instead of nerfing ML Mod shield layers, introduce a new Pilot with a specialized skill designed to counter ML Mods — for example, an ability that can pierce or disrupt multi-layered shields.

Why this works better for everyone:

• Players who feel ML Mods are overpowered now have a purchasable counter-option

• Players who invested in ML Mods still feel their purchase was worthwhile

• Plarium generates new revenue from players motivated to purchase the counter Pilot

• The meta evolves naturally through addition rather than subtraction

• Player goodwill and trust in future purchases is preserved

This model — solving balance through new content rather than stripping existing content — is used successfully by many leading live-service games and tends to result in stronger long-term monetization.

I am genuinely invested in this game’s success and would welcome the opportunity to discuss these ideas further. I’m happy to contribute additional design suggestions if that would be of value to your team.

Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback. I hope it is received in the constructive spirit in which it is intended.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions. We appreciate your passion for the game and your eagerness to help make it better.

We’ve passed your ideas about fair rebalance principles and counter-mechanics along to the team for consideration.

Thanks again for your time and constructive feedback.

Blacknificent!

With all this nerfing going on. Are us players that put money in the game getting a refund? It's like buying a truck with 4x4 and someone buys a base model truck for less with only front wheel drive that doesn't have 4x4. So you disable the truck with 4x4 to made it like the base model.

It's more like if you downgraded the engine. But still it's a digital toy that you should have known could be altereed for better or worse in the future. That's what you agreed to

The system is the same balance system they brought to Pilots and the Implants.  I don't understand how this is a bad thing, unless you just enjoy stomping newbies.  Which then I ask "Why spend so much to be a bully?"

Ihr wollt ausgleichen? Zuerst Mechs, Waffen jetzt Mods was als Nächstes?

Why are long time users getting upset over this? Do they want to keep having an advantage over newer players since it would take forever to get mods under this old system? It sounds like the power of the mods aren't be changed. And if you were one of those that had fully maxed out mods on 3 star mechs and never leveled, You still get mats back when your mods drop to level 3. Unless I am missing something, I see nothing getting nerfed here and nobody missing out on anything.

after the so-called "improvements" furs and weapons

Personally, I spent $200 a month or more on the game.

and also the removal of shields

There is no point in donating to the game at all.

I'm just playing with friends now

and we are looking for a similar clone game

the maximum will be another game or new friends,

This isn't the 90s, the gaming industry is developed.

You're not the first server that, because of the desire to please everyone, loses everything.

I really want to see your online in six months

If you currently have 65% or more in the game, it's the game's bots.

Can we disassemble mods and receive full compensation? Also, can we install mods from one mech to another of the same class, for example, disassembling them from an attacker mech and installing them on another attacker mech?

Add an update for legendary price reduction. And an update for the selling of equipment and you lose the stars of the tier unlocking! PLS

Like all the changed except ML nerf, saved up lang time to get it in three mechs and now it is nerfed.

Need to have at least 1-2 events a months that is Mod-Part rush where only mod parts are given out. Similar to event thar was done when mods were introduced.

Allow users to move mods to different mechs, same Rank. That will make mods more usable for players. Being for only one mech sucks.

They just wanna retain their feeling of superiority at the top. They forget theyre only at the top because MA has a p2w system that rewards those willing to throw stupid amounts of money at the game rather than time and skill....😭
