At my level (mostly rank 4 legendary mechs) , Volti is only a menace in hangar showdown. And yet even there I am learning how to deal with it and in fact these last few days have had a greater than 50% success rate against it.

I think in the current game nothing is so OP that it needs a nerf. The only exception might be compound beams. Not sure about tailsting since I haven't faced it much.

Have you got a decent amount invested in canopy mods? Have you got seeker? If the answer to one or both of those is yes, your experience with volti will probably be a lot different from mine. Also seeker is super braindead itself.

Hangar showdown is already luck based most of your matches are going to be a tossup anyways

Even still SP tankers use it too.

Volti using SP tankers are among the tougher SP tankers to kill because like I said before Volti can target stuff with its ability through walls. A damaging ability. And it's not a teleporting ability like seeker so it takes exactly 0 risk to itself. And it can be used at 100+ meters.

You say there's nothing too OP that it needs a NERF but I say nothing, and I mean NOTHING, should have a 100+ meters damaging ability that can target opponents through walls. It takes 0 skill to use and you basically get tons of free damage.

Or maybe they should rework volti instead so it applies the oracle status effect to itself when it uses its ability so it becomes much easier to locate and flush out of cover.

Volti needs to either not have its ability go through walls, have its range NERFed, or have some kind of punishment for using its 0 skill 0 risk free damaging ability

You make some good suggestions to temper the ability. But as long as it stays the way it does , I'm just saying it can be dealt with fairly decently. In hangar showdown I'm actually at league 3 so no mods and I don't use seeker. The main idea is to try and stay unseen (avoid the "detected" eye) for as long as possible and use a fast mech to close the distance at the right time. Fast mech can be with the help of charge rockets also. It's not foolproof but my rate of success has improved lately. Mechs I've used recently with success include outlaw, Volti itself, vortex and parasite.

Outlaw will always be my top5, parasite will probably be my choice when i get it, vortex is a good tank.. volti is ok.. but its not very fun, its slow and boring.

See I have to try and not be seen while worrying about their teammate and traversing the map and whether or not my teammate will sabotage me and get themselves killed while volti can just try and not get seen while sitting right where it spawned

Yeah you CAN beat it semi-reliably. But it doesn't make it any less of a nuisance.

Also the mechs you say you've found success with first of all they're all legendary which I have a couple of those but they're expensive. But also one of them is another arguably problematic camping mech and the other is the devil himself. And the other two are damage reducing tanks which are generally effective everywhere

I'm not an expert in game balance I would say. But what I do know is a game is generally considered unbalanced when one of the few ways to successfully counter something is to use that thing.

"Also the mechs you say you've found success with first of all they're all legendary"

This might explain the disconnect. You're perhaps facing a matchmaking problem where your gear is unable to deal with Volti. That's totally valid.

Well no it's more like it's a narrow range of mechs that really deal with volti that well. I don't play every day I don't always grind out my tournaments or my dailies when I do play so I can't get the mech from ECR every other week and there's other mechs I want that I'll grab from ECR because of that.

Just because I gave a narrow list based on mechs I've used recently in HS does not mean the overall list is narrow :-). Eclipse, Salvor, Nomad, Surge, Blizzfrost, Tailsting and DW are a few more.

I'm not trying to downplay your frustration. Of course if your progress is such that you can't realistically get the gear you need to beat other mechs (which applies to large list of "annoying" mechs btw.. not just Volti), it is painful. What I disagree with this is the targeted (and often misguided) focus on the mech or weapon of the season.. whatever is most annoying currently for a few people for the timebeing. Whereas the real thing we should continue to rally against is the matchmaking that causes that annoyance to be amplified.

On a side note, if Volti (or Outlaw for that matter) got a nerf where it can no longer apply its ability through walls, I wouldn't complain. It would be tame compared to some relatively unwanted nerfs. But I feel that (for the most part) it is unnecessary and I just have a (perhaps irrational) fear about feeding Plarium more reasons to nerf stuff:-).

If Volti couldn't use it's ability through walls, it'd be a bad mech.

It all depends on what sp level you are at. I had a period where Volti was the best, equipped first with helix rack, later with helix/gemini. Now it is max level and plays versus maxed mechs. Barely holds it's own.

How do you figure volti would be a bad mech? If it needs to be cheap to be good maybe it shouldn't be in the game.

Volti is part of a long line of "counters" to camping builds that's actually just another dirty camping mech. Cause apparently plarium fired all the people that did the balancing for the initial release of the game.

i feel like i want to use swear words, but i will try my best to avoid them..

If Volti could not use ability through the walls then what would be the point of it at all? You have zero clue what you talk about as you never used it, just crying about bad matchmaking, im sure if we remove volti we will have cries about something else, some people are just like that.

I dont think i even have strength in me to explain why volti ability would become useless... but in short, take Onyx as example, Volti would become worse than Onyx.

Dont have onyx? Dont have clue about anything you talking about.

Onyx was alright before mods. And it's hampered by mods because for one its damage is now too low and because it fires all its missiles at once while ml shield mods exist. Not because its ability doesn't go through walks. And they can give it like a guided projectile which summ the drone once it latches on to a mech? And at the same time if it still sucks let the ability have a shorter cooldown if it misses. There's a number of ways to remove skill being necessary to play the game than abilities going through walls. Like they just made silverthorn blade track players.

BTW Volti isn just the annoying mech of the season. Nor is seeker. These mechs each since inception has been a thorn in my side. I don't think it's a passing frustration.

I agree. I would rather plarium fixed the matchmaking. But do you see plarium doing that? Cause I don't. And as long as they're not fixing the matchmaking, equipment which is used for camping that has no major or exploitable weakness is going to remain a constant nuisance. All of it will.

BAAB, you are exactly right, we dont see developers fixing matchmaking, its not happening and its not going to happen, but what we see is random nerfing mechs based on random comments in random places.. your comments however good or bad are falling under this exact category, and main bit of it is that you dont even posess the information to see the full picture, your comment is based on intuition and emotions. I wish i could just gift you my volti, its more or less useless anyway, then hopefully you could switch your attention back to mortars that will never happen.

Who uses mortars anymore? Anywhere? Ever?

I'll take your volti if I could I'd show you just how diabolical it is at this level.

We don't need the full picture of voltis capabilities to know that its definitely OP in low level/ no mods play and in mismatches favoring the user.

And yeah part of my argument is based on emotion. Cause I'm trying to have fun while playing this game. And believe it or not getting hit with a ton of damage basically the moment you all spawn when the enemies don't even have a line of sight in you isn't fun.

If I had access to plarium's stats they'd probably show high win rates for volti users at low SP. Unless of course matchmaking is how I think it is where bots are determining the course of games to bring everybody to appear about average.

volti is not supposed to be used at low SP, the problem you are saying is SP dropping, unless you talking about 5k hangars which for me is medium SP. Low SP is where SP droppers live, 1000-3000 SP i think is low sp.

At 5k sp volti is not dangerous to anyone apart from campers, why? Because if player is not a camper it will die faster in action than Volti would kill it with its ability, while cambers are not taking any damage from anyone else, so they can die purely from Volti and only after 2-3 ability attacks, which is about 1 minutes (10 seconds to do damage and 10 seconds for cooldown). In short im sure average Volti needs to have 30-60 seconds to kill 100k health, while any other normal weapon would take 5 seconds to do same job. If somebody is using volti to do main kills he is an idiot or an SP dropper.

With SP droppers im sure Volti could have success at 1k hangars, it would be able to do one shot ability kills. But that would be with any mech that SP droppers would use, be it Nomad, Redox, Citadel, Dreadnought or any other. The problem is not particular mech having success, the problem is SP dropping.

And if you want to have fun, maybe you can find it in minecraft, because here they implemented a tons of weapons and mechs that are not fun, if you want to change game to your liking, like 180 degreese change, buy their company and create your own rules and have fun. Clearly they are not going to remove 20 mechs because you are trying to have fun.

Unless your whole post about removing volti is because you are SP dropper yourself at 1k hangar and your poor seeker dies from other SP dropper volti. What a sad outcome of events.

I think you're not getting it. You've made quite a few mistakes let's go over them shall we?

Volti alone sure not a problem at 5k, against another legendary mech or a tank.

Thunderstorm at 5k against a legendary mech is a lot different from being at 5k against other rarities to begin with so there's your first mistake. Drops the required abilities to 2 rather than 3 and worse against no canopy mods. That's your 1st mistake.

You can add tons of enhancing abilities on your implants that's your 2nd mistake.

Volti doesn't always have to use its ability against targets with full HP that's your 3rd mistake.

100k health is a lot even for a legendary mech at 5k sp, that level of health is reserved for tanks and higher HP attackers and support 4th mistake.

SP dropper voltis exist at 5k as well 5th mistake.

Getting killed faster in action than by volti's ability does not automatically mean that volti is only dangerous to campers. AND it's also dangerous to anyone reloading or with their ability on cooldown. Mistakes 6, 7.

SP dropping is a problem, yeah. But some mechs and weapons are a lot worse to fight against when an SP dropper is using them compared to other mechs. Mistake #8

Even if volti needs about 30 seconds to kill me, I still have to worry about reaching it within that 30 seconds or I'm dead. And wandering into enemy zone to kill it is almost guaranteed to leave me dead if I'm not dead before I get there which happens more often than not. I can't use camper weapons against it even if I wanted too because it just stays constantly hidden behind a wall. #9

There's tons of annoying equipment in the game I'll give you that. But there's a difference between a mech being annoying to play against and straight up not fun. Volti simply creates too much pressure to eliminate it while simultaneously being extremely difficult to eliminate because of its ability WHICH CAN DAMAGE YOU THROUGH WALLS FROM 90+ METERS AT NO RISK TO ITSELF, AN ABILITY WHICH HAS NOTHING ELSE QUITE LIKE IT IN GAME! Mistake #10

I actually advocated to NERF seeker too. #11

It's not just volti, i's not just SP dropping. It's volti at low levels and its SP dropping and its the combination of those 2 things. Volti's ability is uniquely suited to 0 skill 0 risk camping while SP dropping. If you're talking risk/ reward factor volti is all reward and no risk. It's actually stupid.

I'd buy plarium if I could I definitely would make a ton of sweeping changes and you'd probably like them.

Also to elaborate further on volti being unfun. Some people think generally annoying is unfun. Considering that, yeah there's tons of "unfun" mechs if you broadly consider nuisance mechs to be unfun. But volti makes me rage, because it genuinely shouldn't exist. Neither should seeker. I hated teleporting bots in war robots and they don't even have top tier firepower abd they couldn't teleport across the map. They still pissed me off. Seeker in mech arena has top tier firepower and it can teleport across the map. It's ridiculous and it's infuriating.

Back in the day you flushed out campers with things that could get in the minimum range of their weapons quickly, because devs actually had competent balancing and camping equipment actually had major weaknesses back then. But I guess the team has fired everyone that knew a thing about balancing.

Maybe you think it doesn't need a NERF but you certainly can't th

Minecraft is always fun and I always do go and play that when I get fed up with this game. That's not going to stop me from complaining I'm not having fun here though cause I once did. This game used to be nothing but fun for me, and then they introduced the pilots update and it was pretty much downhill from there. And balance has been virtually nonexistent anywhere in the game since up until recently.
