Though I might prefer Loki to give me other items instead, personally I wouldn't (and dont) complain about being given higher  than unlocked level troops.

They might consume more food, but this shouldn't  really  be a problem, nothing bad happens with being in the red food wise, unless you do not have  enough left to use for upgrades

Troops increase  your influence  so dismissing them costs you  the "free"  boost.                                                                                                        

Yes you can use troops, higher than you have unlocked, you can revive them as well,but just not train any more.

Sometime in the future you might be glad that you have those free high level troops

I didn't know if the information you posted  about unlocked troops was  true or not 

Where did you obtain the information that unlocked troops are worthless?

Why would they be given away if Loki's chest  if they are worthless?

If they are in fact worthless,until they are unlocked,it would be wrong for the game owners to sell them in packages ,often to beginners,of which  I'm pretty certain that they do this.

It might also be of  questionable legality.       

Yes I take your point , it could cost a lot of points in the battles, but he only has a few, and he might not be eligible for the wars yet. 

How many have players  do scout, or have the time to scout a town before they attack it.

Firstly,you cannot scout a shielded town, and mostly they all are, secondly, no  scouts are killed when spying on tiles

I don't want to get into an argument over this issue. All I can tell you is my clan has done the testing and if the troops are unlocked they have no attack/defense stats. We are so confident that anyone in our clan holding unlocked troops is thrown out of the clan. If you are anyone chooses to utilize the unlocked troops be mt guest, I just hope your our next opponent.

As it was the first time I had heard the notion, I wanted to find out the source. 

I suppose I could ask around, but the only way to get a definitive answer, assuming they reply with truthful information, is to ask the  company officials who run the game or view this forum.

As to meeting across the battlefield. in the unlikely event that this were to happen, there would be scant points to be won from my unlocked troops
