Yes there is NEWS AND EVENTS section in this site where you can see upcoming invaders plus they keep updating so keep looking into it (link is below this) and Also there is FB page where they declare upcoming invaders.

The simple answer is PRACTICALITY.
You cant have your town in two areas at the same,so in order to do both simultaneoulsy, you are forced to yield from tiles and attack invaders in other locations.
No doubt there are tactical reasons as well.

Most that hit invaders from long distance are using extra accounts that are not main player to get materials. Most likely they can only hit lower level invaders but they want to stay in their hive. It adds some extra points to clan totals if they hit them and a ghost when they are dumping Resource from the account
