Ok,back to topic, sandworms main weapon is probably teeth, which I don't think have to have wires...and also, if the wires are to tame the sandworm-I'm pretty sure you can tame a sandworm without wires...well,maybe very hard...

in my opinion those wires originate from head and goes to rest of the body.
these wires may be in order to control these type of huge creature or improve the muscle performance by means of electrical impulses.Pfft!! This game take place quite some time into the future, we very well could have made a form of communication with them.
