Did you clear cache and update your browser? You should close other tabs. I think that it will help you.

Once a day, I get this error. Browser change or cache empty does not help. Only the following day the game works again. As long as the bug is not fixed, I will not put a cent into the game.

In my case VPN slows the internet speed down
Maybe it's individual things.

They say misery loves company but this is one company I would rather not have joined! I am now unable to open my game due to the same problem. Too bad, I like this game and was really growing quickly.

Nothing in this game is that speed sensitive. VPN speed will not impact your game play, here. [Not being full screen / non-stop video playing.] If it helps you be able to play, you should use it.
There are add-ons for Chrome and Chromium (not Opera, which uses the system proxy) to change the browser's proxy on the fly for you. Being a browser game, a full vpn is not needed, just a proxy. Which all means you could use different proxies in different profiles / browsers, let alone the system wide VPN, to try and find some combination that works for you (for the moment).
