It's the point of adding Geists :) They're not the same as Champions as they're a different kind of creatures that have their own peculiarities.

I treat them just like an additional way of upgrading Champions faster. Something like a Bonus way.

Well my grade 3 geist is useless, cannot use it to upgrade a level 3 champion.. lol

Use it to improve Champion of the same Rank and Rarity Grade as your Geist is :)

The number of XP your Champion receives depends on the Rank of Geist and is equal to the XP of the Champion with the same Rank.

I haven't found this information in the guide. Please quote it. 

I find, if i do not participate in the champion tower event, i do not get lumbered with geists, which cost more resources to sacrifice that normal champions.
