Preferable, but not critical - 50 thieves will be nice too.

They are the fastest units in game and 25 of them can get 50k rss from castle very fast. x2 for 2 raids at once ^_^

PS By the way, paragon cost different for paragon lvls.

I know but i see there no problem - with higher paragon i get more bonuses so it can cost more :)

Things worth using sapphires on before castle defense:

• Craftsmen. If you plan to spend money on this game, I've been told that you're much better off getting your third and fourth craftsmen as part of a $5 package apiece, instead of getting them with sapphires, but still buying your second with sapphires. That sounds reasonable. If you're cheap, they'll all be sapphires, and it takes a while to save up that many sapphires early in the game, so start saving immediately.
• Thieves. I don't know why everyone says to buy 50 of these; you only need 46, or 42 if you're willing to use a 30-minute paragon activator every time you need to hit two 50K farms at the same time.
• Additional Slot Dragon Arts. These cost sapphires instead of dragon points, and you need them.
• Gateway of Chance. New players starting today end up in terrible locations. If there are no high-level dead castles near you, and you're on the edge (or, worse, the corner) of the world, teleport.
• Scrolls for Waters of Life and Bran's Legacy. Buying Lost Arts scrolls is usually not worth it, but if you're stuck on these for a week each where you can't build anything with your craftsmen (which is much easier since the last Lost Arts changes), speed it up.
• Timber packs. Unless you plan to annoy all of your non-game-playing friends, or cheat with a bunch of alts, you'll need to buy these with sapphires.
