Hi Drag-Theseus,
For my coalition the rules are as follows for Peace/Ally status:
Attack No City
Attack No Capitol
Attack No Pantheons
Emporiums-Contact that player-otherwise-Do Not Attack
It is "highly recommended" (emphasis on "highly") that "before" you attack a siege (bot farm, protectorate) or emporium to contact the other coalition member and set up a understanding of engagement.
I personally have an understanding with over 50 other coalition's individual members with the following ROE (Rules of Engagement)
1.) Emporiums-What happens in the emporiums, stays in the emporiums!
This rule is very helpful in the mission to get 2 Agemas. An understanding with another player gets you the mission, plus no threat to your city or coalition.
2.) Bot Farms-Are free to hit. After a big raid in which the galley trick is used-I find it "very lucrative" to send that member a portion of the raid. Good for me, good for him and no threat to each of our city or coalition. Let's face it-the hair trigger response is prevalent in Sparta...lol:))
I woke up this morning to having no bot farms that I sieged last night-but my resources had jumped up to at least 150K-courtesy of "honorable players"! Wish there was a reward for playing like this-I know of several players who play and respect the agreements we each have made.
3.) Protectorate-this one is tricky because if it is not a bot farm-the person that has taken a city owns it. (In my opinion)
I don't take a protectorate unless its an enemy. Other times, I have been invited to take a city. Having huge resources in that city-I send back some resources to the member who "owned" it. End Point-no threat to my city or his for the attack.
Diplomacy existed back in ancient Sparta and can be applied here-rules of engagement are preferable to blowing out one's army.
It has to-the build times, along with revival cost are, in some cases, insurmountable to the common player (myself included) to compete on a regular basis.
In the long term, you end up with building a bigger army (for use on Persian Positions as well) for the times when "diplomacy" fails. And when it does-not only are you ready, but your coalition is ready as well to defend and attack.
Hope this was of some help to you.
Strength & Honor,
Mick
