It gets in the way when selecting enemies and allies. I have no interesting checking chat while in dungeons or arena. Please move it next to the pause button where it is on the main screen/Bastion.

It'd be nice if we could have an option to just hide it altogether during battles.

Seriously, I would very much like to know *precisely* what the dev was thinking if they decided to do that on purpose.
Horrible location, covering up allies hit points.
Might as well put it directly in the middle of the screen & block everything (kidding, give an option to hide/move this awful chat window)
