I  have  been  doing  everything  required,  every  single  day,  to  earn  stars  according  to  the  guidelines  and  the  only  star  I  get is  the  one  for  signing  in.    There  is  a  very  specific  list of  things  to  get  stars.  I   have  done  them  all  and  i  never  get  a  second  star.      I  would  not  really  care,  except  that it  is  holding  up  my  mission  progress.

I  usually  don't  pay  for  anything  in  these  games  until  I try  them  out  for a  few  weeks.   I  am  enjoying  this  game  a  lot  and  was  prepared  to  make  a  purchase.    But  I  won't  be  spending  a  dime  if  this  outrageous  bug  isnt  fixed
