The bar above the enemy is black and red indicates the strength left. Sometimes, part of it turn light gray. What does that signify?

Grey is from Shield buffs. Both the ones coming from set bonuses as well as the ones from the buffs have the same bar. If the bar is grey but surrounded by yellow, it means the shield buff can't be removed.

I noticed a buff icon on a boss that was outlined in yellow. Now, I know. Thanks for sending answers before I know I have a new question. :)
