I hope plarium put turn counter somewhere in the screen to avoid confusion. 

That's exactly what happened. It says turn limit reached on the error message. 

If the run completion time was down around 20 min or less then I would suspect some kind of error

But with a 40+ minute run you may be pushing the max number of turns your allowed for a single battle

Perhaps someone more knowlegable of these things on the forums knows the exact number of max turns

I have done it with different characters and intervals, always gives the same result.
