I used @Trips trick of fusing Relickeeper and Broadmaw to complete Champion Chase.  I burned up about 15m of silver but I always have 100-150m on hand.  As long as you level up the minor champs during an event the energy used is not wasted.  Level them during a gear event and you can double dip.
