Every day has been like this for two weeks now, except the Marius 4* still won't show up...really testing my will power to save resources.

I maintain a list of 1 that i will currently burn essence for each type, and my gold list is currently empty despite having well over 300. My silver list could be expanded to a few but unless I know 100% more likely to regret the purchase. 

Maybe it is all just a coincidence, but I wouldn't be surprised if Plarium increased the odds of higher-star splits leading into events like a Path or DoF that needs soulstones.  The drop rates on splits in the market are not published anywhere at all, so Plarium can change them any time they want.  I'd certainly do it if I were them. 

Additionally, all drop rates have been hidden from the data-miners since some time last year, so no one would know if Plarium made ongoing tweaks to the soul market.

This week's DoF is a straight out play to drain immortal soulstones before we need them in a couple of weeks. 

My Gold list has exactly one tenant:  Marius, and he isn't even 4* yet.  

I am quite a bit more free with Silver Essence, and I have a habit of taking every Lego that I actively use to 3*. 

I had a 6* split for Kro'khad show up twice in three days. Still not done building him yet or I probably would've been tempted.

I haven't seen any increase in valuable souls. Just RNG and confirmation bias

I got a 5* for horsey a little while ago, desperatly hoping his 6 will show up every refresh

I've got 300 gold things set aside for it, and also another 100 for C. Cat's 5* . Not currently setting aside silver for anyone, though there are a few i could use; Gnut for instance
