Time to remove an archaic game mechanic?

This might just be me, but does anyone else find the 3% chance of your buffs being removed/stolen or enemy debuffs landing when your resistance is far higher than your opponents accuracy and your debuffs being resisted when your accuracy is far higher than your opponents resistance incredibly frustrating?

In shorter, more simple content its not too noticable but in longer or more complex encounters such as hydra it much more of a problem.  I've had perfectly fine hydra runs fail due to block buffs being resisted or mischief ripping buffs of the high resistance mischief tank.

There is nothing quite like in brutal hydra having the magic head of mischief (345 acc) succeed in ripping off your force mischief tank's (434 res) buffs a couple of times in a row and you are left in a curious combination of frustation and speechless wonder at the odds of a hydra head with negative affinity to my mischief tank and with 90 less acc than the tanks resistance succeeding in removing the buffs 2 times in a row.

I personally see no need for this mechanic that most MMO's discarded 2 decades ago.

First of all, I think this is actually based on D&D's D20 system of a 20 and a 1 (which is where the MMOs got the idea from).

Second, that 3% keeps things interesting. Third, it seems extremely unlikely (but still possible) RNG hurt a hydra run of yours so you're here venting your frustration.  I get wanting some sort of "Guarantee" with your build but randomness is a core part of the gameplay so I doubt it will change.

The only scenario where the mechanic truly ruins runs is if you're running a Wixwell + Yannica shield explode comp, where yeah, it makes restarts necessary.

It gives people who go against paragon trolls still that 3% chance to deal with him, eventually guaranteeing the win 😂

Disagree.

I go full manual, and every now and then I'll be an hour plus into a run, and a bad string of rng results in a champ being eaten. And I know if i restart i could to another 20-40% more damage.

Annoying, but it happens.

I guess it comes down to a debate over whether being 2/3 to 3/4 done counts as being "ruined"

If my clan were either way ahead or too far behind in Clash for it to matter I might shrug it off and accept it, but otherwise I'll restart

We're not exactly saying the same thing. A string of bad rolls isn't the same as a one-off event ending the run.

oh, in that case 100% agree. you have to assume the 3% is gonna come up. I find it *averages* about 3 times per 1500 turn run. it's only a problem for me if it happens a couple times *in a row*

Or the rare perfect storm, like provoke 3%s on taunt champ, then mischief eats the hexer on the same turn hex wears off, sorta thing

Honestly the RNG of Hydra that I fear more than anything is that damn Suffering Head eats and gives himself a extra turn... like your champ is guaranteed eaten if he takes his turn and you're far enough in that it's a 2 turn process.

The most hated, and I mean HATED thing, is when the head that devours also gets the Life Barrier.... especially if somehow poison cloud is also on that head.

Those things are usually the end of the run and my two biggest reasons (going back to the other threads) that there needs to be a Quick Battle something for Hydra because that's a hour+ of your time gone when those RNG events happen

And then Decay uses the A3 to cleanse and shield Mischief just to seal the deal.

I am aware of where the idea comes from and have experienced it in D&D myself to some rather hilarious outcomes.  However just because it works in D&D doesn't always mean it will work the same in other scenarios.

MMOS, at least the more popular/casual ones like WoW, got rid of the whole resistance thing 20 years ago as it restricted game design and caused unnecessary annoyance to players.  I'm just suprised a more modern game that styles it self as an online RPG would use a mechanic that has proven to be more of a hinderance than a help in terms of game design and the player experience.

As for my RNG my parents have always said of me that if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all so while it might seem unlikely that i get these rng issues multiple times in a row I unfortunately do, practically every week it seems.

I get what you mean about randomness being part of the game but surely we get enough randomness in the game from champ pulls, gear drops and crafting, gear stat rolls and chest drops from cb, hydra, seige etc and even in the damage you do (or recieve) so having randomness in this section of the game just feels punishing for no reason.

Lol.  If you are going against those types of teams I wish you luck.  I personally try to avoid them.

However, you have made me consider a modification to my inital thought.  Perhaps apply the 3% chance to players only making it only really apply in PvP so arena, tta, live and seige.

I'm nit picking here, but WoW hasn't been around for 20 years yet. It launched in November of 2004

So, where you come from, is it not acceptable to round 19 yrs & 10 months up?

except wasn't it like 6 or 7 *years* after launch before wow dropped the resist mechanic?

I just checked. resistance was dropped in patch 5.0.4, august 2012

So i do think rounding 12 years up to 20 is pushing it, unless you're sneaking a beer to your nephew :D

That's certainly fair with that extra date information, but last night you said November 2004 was too close to round up to 20 yrs.....😜

On a side note, I think I was 11-12 when an uncle snuck me my first beer at a family reunion.

Two out of three doctors say that in general the top 1% like the top 3%, 70% of the time.
