Even though the reflection in the water looks like a quarter moon, it is misleading. The amount of light cast on the walls could only mean that the moon is near full. The time is probably past midnight. Southern hemisphere? The next new moon will be 12 to 13 days. Also, kind of hard to tell, but it appears the ship is under sail, against the wind, if the flag on the fortress wall indicates wind direction.
The picture is photoshopped, obviously.
Light on the wall isn't from moon but rather from camera flash.
The ship is added to make whole picture "more pirate-like", thus I'd ignore its sails.
The flag is modified as well but wind may be blowing like that - there really is a flag on that spot. It is Dubrovnik castle, Croatia btw.
I'd go with reflection in the water, thus new moon will come in like 7 days. Thanks for pointing that out Astaroth. I googled it. Looks like a beautiful place. I'll still stick with 12-13 days though. (29 days between full moons) because a last quarter moon rises in the middle of the night and shines in the morning sky around these parts. The reflection in the picture shows the moon too high. Guess we'll have to wait for the artist to give us their interpretation. Thanks again. Interesting topic.
