It's just a "screensaver" and it means that the game is in "sleep" mode, not "talking" to the server, nothing more. We had it on Kabam too, but having no "friends" there, it was just a drawing of a drunk pirate and his cat or something. Ignore its spammish nature and treat it as if it just had a "go back to playing" button or something.
