Anyone else have trouble getting the squirrel rewards to appear while playing in the maze?

I noticed I didn't get the spinner in my 2nd game after winning my 1st game, so I exited out of the maze, played the 3rd game by clicking on the puzzle icon in the home garden, got the spinner reward from the squirrel.

When I was going into my 4th game (in the maze screen), I saw no squirrel rewards, so I exited out to the main garden and started the puzzle from the puzzle icon. Kept having to exit out to the main garden to start puzzles in order to get the squirrel rewards to apply to the puzzle. They wouldn't apply when I started puzzle from the maze screen.
