🏝️ 🕌 Ready to reveal the backstory of Paradise Plaza? Then let’s go back in time…
Paradise Plaza was, many years ago, a shopping hub for the wealthy elite. It contained everything from designer labels to supercar showrooms. Then the sandstorms came. And they never stopped. Vendors packed up and moved elsewhere while the owners floundered. After desperate negotiations, the Mech Arena League stepped in and started leasing out the space as an Arena. It might be a far-cry from its upmarket origins, but it’s still a place of business. The only difference is that the main currency now is Mech-on-Mech violence.
While many of the buildings were buried in sand, one of Paradise Plaza’s most enduring landmarks is the tower. Originally an office space for the owners, it’s now used as a hotel for Pilots. While it might look basic from the outside, inside it’s the picture of luxury. A subterranean pool is located beneath, and you’ll often catch Pilots unwinding there. Lodestar and Galvan feel particularly at home in the desert and often extend their stay to soak up the heat.
The hotel is a nod to its extravagant origins. Paradise Plaza was the passion project of the Malik twins, Mansur and Moza. They founded Luxecorp Capital and spared no expense building the shopping mall. It was wildly successful, but then things turned sour. Mansur and Moza started fighting and their businesses suffered. Damage from the sandstorms was the final straw. After scraping by for a number of years, hope is on the horizon - Mansur’s granddaughter, Maysun. She’s determined to turn her family’s fortunes around and leasing Paradise Plaza was the first step.
While it would be incorrect to say that Paradise Plaza is more profitable than ever, it is finally generating money again. Sponsors fight for coveted billboards, and it even supports a lucrative tourism business. When the Arena is not in use, guided tours take hordes of fans around to examine scorch marks on walls and marvel at impact craters. While it might not look it at first glance, Paradise Plaza represents resilience and the power of adapting in a world that’s constantly changing. In a desert of bad luck for the Maliks, it has become an oasis.
