Reimagining the playoff event (to actually be about playing the game)
You have all these differently named payoff events but most of the missions are the same and all the samey missions are buyable, hence payoff.
I want to make it a real playoff. So I came up with different types of playoff events that make people engage with the game and it's mechanics.
To start out, all of these playoff events will have some baseline missions. These are things that you normally do while playing, or happen to occur while playing, or maybe they only happen once per battle. And they aren't worth many points.
The missions go like this:
Kill mechs - 1 point each
Capture control points - 2 points each
Get a double KO - 5 points each
Get revenge - 5 points each
Get first blood - 5 points each
Earn any medal - 1 points each
Besides the baseline missions, each different playoff event has missions for earning different awards in battle. These are weighted more than the baseline missions as playing to complete these missions is what encourages players to diversify their playstyles and engage in the game's various different mechanics.
For sneaky assassin awards there is the Assasin's Playoff Event:
Earn the "Ghost" award - 5 points
Ninja Master - 10 points
Silent but Deadly - 15 points
Boogeyman - 20 points
Phantom - 25 points
Imagine the same points structure for playoff events with award categories that have 5 tiers. 3 tiered award categories would go 10, 20, 30.
Finally, I think there should be a super heavily weighted playoff mission for each event that encourages teaming either directly or indirectly. There's two big reasons for this. The first is very obvioius, this is suppoed to be a team based game. The second is there needs to be an option for people who aren't interested in grinding a lot. People have a limited time they can play with teammates during the day already so if people don't want to grind they can organize the little time they do play to be in step with a team.
For a controller's playoff event this would be "prevent your opponents from capturing the central control point in a battle" - 200 points
For the remainder of the playoff events it would be "earn assists while playing with teammates" - 3 points per teammate
