There is more to the MVP position then just kills and captures.
After a Battle, all the players in the Battle are given Medals based on how well they did in certain areas. The player that does the best gets a Gold Medal, second-best gets a Silver Medal, and third-best gets a Bronze Medal - regardless of which team the player is on. There's a set of Medals for each of these categories:
Medals are shared if there's a tie. If 2 players get the most kills in a Match - 8, for example - they would both win a Gold Medal.
All the medals are tallied to determine the match MVP.
In short it is possible to get 0 kills but still get match MVP if you get enough medals in the other areas.

Usually this topic comes up when someone get the most kills in a round but doesn't get mvp for kills or for the match. There are certian weapons that act as score multipliers like mortars. This allows a player to get less kills but get a higher score and thus place first in kills or for medals.
