Where did all the A-Coins go? A potential solution to weekly challenge rewards.

I'm not starting this to be overtly negative, but where did all the A-coins go?  I haven't been playing this game for too long (maybe a couple of months or so) but I remember when I first started the rewards for things like the upgrade challenge (progress or whatever the purple challenge is that's purple and has a picture of a woman holding a wrench) rewarded abot 1,000 A-coins if completed.  I understnad that upgrading the star level of a mech or weapon isn't very realistic everytime, but even then you could still rack up at least 500 A-coins without fully completing the challenge.  This game's progress is reliant on credits and A-coins and it doesn't seem like its very easy to collect either at the moment.  You don't even get A-coins for the rewards anymore and you still need to use A-coins to upgrade star lvls.  I thoroughly enjoy this game, but I do agree with some when they say the rewards do not seem to be worth while.

I understand that "The challenges are currently in the beta" but doesnt that mean now (IN BETA) is the time to balance it out?

Suggestion number 1: It would be nice to get the chance to earn at least 250-500 A-Coins for completing a weekly challenge without having to spend A-coins.  I believe it would be fair to also have a minimum of 25k credits to earn in the weekly challenges.  If people could earn 250-500 A-Coins without needing to spend A-Coins and 25k credits per challenge they would be able to earn 1500 A-Coins and 75k credits (Correct me if I'm wrong but I think there are only three weekly challenges, Upgrade, Battlethon, and accolade) I'm not counting the specialization one.  With that said, it would still take a solid month of not more to save up for things like carbines, Cheetah, star lvl upgrades, etc.

Suggestion number 2: Remove the need for A-coins to upgrade mechs and weapons and keep rewards as they are.

Suggestion three:  Make tiers from previous tournament results.  I personally dislike having to start off the weekly tournaments at the lowest tier.  If people placed in the top 10-15 in grandmaster then let them start off in master or the class below for the new weekly tournament.  This will allow stornger players to continue collecting higher rewards and should help balance gameplay keeping better players out of lower tiers with newer players.  The other part of this would also be increasing the rewards from tournaments.  Not sure what would be reasonable with that at the moment though.

What are your thoughts on this?  Feel free to throw out anything else.  Thanks for reading.

Some nice insights here beer30mn.

I personally would like to see the tournament and xp structure reworked for some of the same reasons  you outlined but also to promote more progressive play as players develope.  What I would love to see is a tiered player progression with rewards unlocked not on xp but on tournament rank.

Below is a brief outline of how it would work as a new player leveling up:

  • We would keep the same ticket tournament systme. Honestly, if it isn't broke don't fix it.
  • New players start at the lowest bracket.  If you want to advance it requires one of 2 conditions.  Either A. you place 1st in the weekly tournament in which case you go up one bracket or B. you win set number of games in a row.  In this bracket it is 5.
  • Now that you are in the next bracket you have unlocked juggernaut.  You still have to buy him with credit or A-Coins but the point is he is now accessible to use once acquired.  Some of the lower level weapons unlock as well, like RPG 4.  The player base is a little more exprienced and are slighlty more skilled.
  • To advance to the next bracket you again have to either A. place 1st in the weekly tournament or B. win a set number of games in a row. In this bracket it is 6.
  • Now that you are in the next bracket again you have unlocked panther.  You again still have to buy him with credits or A-Coins but he is accessible to use now.  Same again for some weapons like RPG 6.

This would continue to repeat.  Every bracket you unlock more content whether it be mechs or weapons but to do so you must be proficient with the content currently available to you.  Additionally, it becomes harder to advance to unlock more end game content as it would progressively take more wins in a row (5,6,7,8,9...etc.) and it will become more difficult to place in 1st to advance.

This structure rewards both skill and persistence.  Even if you P2W to unlock a better mech or weapon you will quickly get placed in a similar competitive bracket.

Will it happen...likely not.  But I can dream.  Good topic beer30mn! 😉

Another thing that I just thought of would be an overall ranking system.  As you win tournament matches you get trophies or EXP that accumulates over the course of the week and tier our rewards for all participants based off their total score at the end of the week.

For example

Day one of the tournament gets their typical rewards but your overall score stays with you for what I will fall the final final prize tier.  Lets say this was 2000 points on day one

Day two finishes just like day one.  You get 2000 points again (now at 4k total)

Then repeat until the final night of the weekly tournament.  Now take the person who scored the most accumulated points and give them a nice reward for 1st place overall all the way down to some of the lower tier players, so on and so forth.

Dude! I  am  with  you!  Write  the  developers,  post  more  stuff  in  forums  and  tell  your  buddies  in pre-battle  chat  to  complain!  Let's  run  some  numbers,  it  takes  more  the  200k  credits in  lower  iterations to  take  a  mech  up  a  class that  excluding the  cost  in  A  Coins.  The  price  for  ranking  up  a  Cheetah  first  round  is  3750  A  Coins,  the  Cheetah's  initial  purchase  price is  only  4000  A  Coins!  Advancing  a  long  arm  10  @   rank  6  (*)  again  3750  A  Coins.  The  best  way  to  get  said  A  Coins  sans  purchasing  is  tourney.  With  the  new  diminished rewards you  will  need  to  place  first  every  round,  no  easy  feat!  Even  with  that  stellar  accomplishment  you can  expect to  garner  1950  A  Coins.  In  order  to  do  that  you'll  no  doubt  need  to  purchase  tickets  (with  A  Coins)  which  further  reduces  your  net  Gain. The  old  rates  for  said  accomplishment  is  3350  A  Coins  so , I  believe  the  avg.  is  a  58%  loss  with   Gr.  master  suffering   the  least  @ 20%. Mech  Arena  has  become  a  fools  errend  and  a  game  of  diminishing  returns.  I  have  ceased  competitive  play  and  now,  only  casually  entertain  myself  at  my  leisure.  I  do  hope  it  becomes  more  balanced  at  which  point  I  shall  resume  play.  I  used  to  spend  a  modest  amount  of  real  USD  in  the  game  and  it  does  help  dramatically  but  now  I  abstain  due  to  the  latest  unfair  turn  of  events.  I simply  no  longer  wish  to  support  them  monetarily.  I  feel  they  have  changed  the  game  in  a  very  negative  way.  They  are  in  it  to  make  money,  deservedly  so.  I  have  no  issue  with  that. Mech  Arena  however  is  a  fraternal  schema  that  promotes camaraderie  . Seems to me  as  people  build  clans ,  online  friendships etc...  the  money  will  follow.   The  almighty  dollar  sadly  has   become  The  sole  driving  force.

Yeah, I'm with you on this. I think they need to keep the a-coins though. When they nerfed tourny and dropped a-coins from tasks it really hurt. A-coins help the game make money so I'm okay with that. However, they are an integral part of upgrading so we need a better way to get them.

In the next update A-Coin rewards from tournaments are coming back.

After I posted this, I did start paying closer attention to some rewards (specifically the challenges) and it looks like each challenge has a first reward at 7500 credtis, then a second reward for 25K credtis, so at least they are giving us the chance to earn roughly 35k total credits.  But that doesn't solve the lack of A-coins.  I had saved over 5k A-coins and I'm down to just over 1k A-coins since upgrading a couple mechs/ weapons unlocks and it seems stagnenet ever since.  We need to push this post if we really want to draw some attention.  I will be keeping track of my A-coins a little closer now.  Especially since I wanna save up for the carbines (since I unlocked both stasis beams).
