Shields for weapon slots

I think a shield at or around energy 4 would be a great addition it doesn't need a health score of its own and should only cover about 50% of the front of a shadow for size comparison. This would allow characters diversity in mech design. I think with some clever tinkering lancers or shadows would be boosted the most since they would become alot more effective as brawlers although some players such as snipers or javelin throwers wouldn't care for them since the removal of one of thier weps essentially makes their build ineffective they need that burst damage this could bridge the gap in different mechs alot or atleast give players another tool to make those rarely played mechs more prevalent. Lets be honest people are all playing the same killshot panther guardian ares the shadow lancer and md as a percentage are little to nothing where jugs are atleast well enough represented.

Interesting idea Marsmith.

I think you should expand your idea and offer increase utility options for mechs by equipping different types of "buffers."  It gives players a choice to sacrifice offensive damage for increased individual or team utility support.  For instance, lose a weapon slot for an improved ability. Such as:

Lancer:  

  • Red Buffer (Aggression):  While in air increases damage by 100%.
  • Blue Buffer (Defensive):  Allows double jump (consecutive use while in air only)
  • Yellow Buffer (Neutral):  Increases single jump height (might be forced to redesign some maps, so maybe not)

Paragon:  

  • Red Buffer (Aggression):  Increases movement speed by 40% and damage by 10% but increases incoming damage by 10% while under the effects.
  • Blue Buffer (Defensive):  Increases movement speed by 50% and reduces cooldown on ability by 20%.  
  • Yellow Buffer (Neutral):  On ability uses gives passive speed boost of 15% to 2 nearby mechs.

Juggernaut:  

  • Red Buffer (Aggression):  When ability is activated shield is reduced by half but damage is increased by 20% for length of ability.
  • Blue Buffer (Defensive):  When under effects of shield undergoes 1% health regeneration per second (not a fan of this but it fits with their kit and intended play).
  • Yellow Buffer (Neutral):   Personal Shield is shared with 2 closest mechs  

Panther:  

  • Red Buffer (Aggression):  Mech's under effect of Statsis Barrier slow have increased damage by 10%
  • Blue Buffer (Defensive):  Ally Mech's passing through Statis Barrier have their attack increased by 10%
  • Yellow Buffer (Neutral):   Extra node is added to statis barrier (from 4 to 5) extending barrier fence length.

Obviously there are other mechs but thought I would only do a few to keep the discussion going.

i like the idea of customization for 3 branches especially some those you mentioned for lancer sound fun to try out and of anything that allows players to get more invested into their mechs. I do however ask if changes such as boosters are added  to the game they should slightly favor those mechs that are less represented and all around weaker if we give the top played mechs the same damage or defense benefits as the lesser played mechs we will just continue to see them used at their same disproportionate rates.

Ideas i would slightly change

Lancer could get a 50% damage increase for 4 seconds after using jump ability so it would incorporate the entire time in air with a slight window incase you come into contact with terrain like the side of a cliff that might accidentally negate the effect. 

I really like the double jump but if it becomes an issue with terrain then just swap to second charge option

A super jump would be awsome but i would change to a speed booster 30% or so for 4 seconds after ability is used if it becomes an issue

Paragon panther and jug abilities sound good wouldnt change a thing they all seem reasonable to work into the game and in line with their classes

But i feel this is more of my personal wish list for the future of this game and perhaps to much change to quick. Athough i would definitely be on board I think we could get customization quicker with status effects in weapon slots perhaps a 6 energy healing module or overload device that gives other weapon a 50% damage boost might pair well with some weapon setups. I would suggest a slower integration but to the same end you speak of a deeper dive into customization
