A thought

I've been playing this game for quite a while now.  Started around then end of October 2022.  I've been very dedicated.  Never missed more than 3 days due to vacation.  I finally, for the first time, took a two week break, logged back in a couple of days ago.  I noticed something....

I was calmer when I wasn't playing.  I've realized just how bad this game really is.  The balance is ok, its not great as there are definately true "best to pick" mechs and weapons, but its not horrible.  The matchmaking though, that's just junk.  And honestly, the devs don't care.  Now I'm certain that people can point to changes in the last few months and say that they are trying.  But these words are hollow.  Why?  Its easy, you should never be matched against someone who over gears you.  In the last 3 days, I've been matched up against so many opponents that have a squad power of around 2x what I've got, its not funny or some annomoly.  Understand, I'm talking about squad power, NOT hanger power (hanger power means jack and squat during a match).

Another thing is that the game clearly doesn't want you to win anything more than 50% of your matches.  If I win one or two matches, I'll be put in a situation where my opponenets have so much more squad power that its impossible for me to win.  Basically, I'm punished for winning.  That should NEVER happen in a game.

I know this messsage won't really go anywhere or do anything.  I've accepted that for the most part.  I've seen moderator activity on this forum go from multiple posts a day to one or two posts a week - if we are lucky.

There is a lot more that I could say, and would if I thought anyone at the company was going to listen (there's a reason I've gotten pretty silent on these forums).  I just thought I should say, if you've been playing a game daily, and after over 3.5 years realize that it is what makes you angry, frustrated, and snapping at your family every time they talk to you while you are playing - you probably aren't playing a good quality game.

I still haven't decided to completely quit, but I am reevaluating this game.

Well said!

As I occasionally try and remind folks, don't play the game if it is no longer fun for you. It's as simple as that. Don't be in the relationship if your main motivation is "I'll fix him/her" :-). Be in it because you enjoy it and, because it's a game, do your best to give feedback to help improve it without losing your head.. or your joy.

I do get that it's hard to quit a game that you want to enjoy, but that's what anyone should do for their mental health if they're not actually enjoying it.

I completely agree with the OP and it's really frustrating to lose after certain number of wins. It happens for me, but there's no use in getting frustrated because that's how they made a gem of a game into something even a diehard Mech Arena fan like me despise now. I'm fine with the game on a daily basis because I do win sometimes, but most of my losses still seem unfair (on all matches except for Hangar Showdown). And the main reason I want to play is that I want to have a great 20k SP Hangar with my favourite mechs (Redox, Surge, Eclipse, Deathwalker, Salvor and many others because I'm afraid I'll get banned by Plarium for posting a long message XD.)

Hello! We appreciate your dedication to our game. The intention of win-rate-based matchmaking is to increase competitiveness. Apologies for this outcome.

We all understand the intention, but at some point shouldn't Plarium suck it up and say you know this is not working out the way we intended so let's fix it? Just fixing the huge SP disparities would be a simple and effective start. In sports we don't normally put a skilled junior team against senior teams just because the junior team has had a great win streak, do we?

Just to add to what I wrote above, while you are adding a challenge for the lower SP player, you are usually giving an easy win to the high sp player. That's not increased competitiveness overall.

Well said man! The current game is nowhere near the "old" Mech Arena where every match requires some sort of skill. Here by skill I mean you would help your teammates capture beacons by distracting an overpowered mech, use a Disc Launcher to hit enemies behind cover, turn the tables with a Zephyr's Shock Pulse and ambush the last mech in a CPC match and many such examples in the past games. Most mechs are quite slow so mechs like Guardian and Onyx could be used till endgame. There are no spammy weapons, no quick-reload weapons, and particularly very few weapon debuffs (only Weaken, Stasis, Implosion and Shock effect) in the older games.

I do not criticise the updated game (every game needs updates and it keeps the game alive) but that does not mean all players should go for a weapon that can easily dominate any match and can be used with zero skills. No victory in Mech Arena feels "satisfied" (except when you defeat an almost-meta hangar with a non-meta hangar) because someone would aimlessly shoot and get kills while the other struggles to move because they are afraid of losing every match they play. The defeats feel personally painful which are primarily caused by poor matchmaking, SP disparities or bot disparities.

These are the problems I face and I admit they are not always consistent with me (probably I'm somewhat lucky or something) but there are many other players who feel they get very powerful opponents capable of doing one-shot any mech at any map, and the devs seem to nerf/buff content that does not make sense. They nerf Nomad and Dreadnought because they are constantly used by SP Droppers to abuse games (I also admit these SP dropper cheats brought these mechs and won matches) but now they buff Redox to such an extent that any SP dropper would want to use it to dominate their matches. How does that make sense. The game discourages SP dropping, but also gives SP droppers an extra option so that there's a chance of SP Dropping all the time...

Hello there! We understand that many long-time players have fond memories of earlier versions of Mech Arena and preferred the pace and gameplay of that era. As the game has evolved with new Mechs, Weapons, Game Modes, and features, the overall experience has naturally changed as well. Nonetheless, we are doing it to make your game experience more exciting and fun.

Regarding SP dropping, the recent changes to Mechs like Dreadnought and Nomad were made to address specific patterns we observed. At the same time, balance adjustments, whether buffs or nerfs, are made with the goal of improving the overall Meta, not encouraging unfair playstyles. We'll continue monitoring how these changes affect gameplay after the update.

We also appreciate your feedback about matchmaking and overall game balance. Thanks a lot for sharing it with us!
