Match Making Solution

I know there is a plethora of suggestions here on how to fix this, and I have on occasion in other topics make mine, but it feels like perhaps emphasizing my suggestion through its own thread, will at the very least bring me an explanation on why doing that will not fix the matchmaking problem, and at the very most, perhaps be the beginning of match making finally being fixed? I couldn't find the answer to the former in any other thread, and I did look.

I would welcome a discussion on this, not just one of the forum mods producing the "very least" part from the bit above.

So my suggestion would be this (to me it's so sooo simple):

The way power rating work need to be reviewed and overhauled from the ground up. I think the reason why is best illustrated by the fact that the M.D. mech has a higher rating than Nomad...to anyone who has played the game for a while, the imbalance between the two mechs will be obvious, not just because one of those mechs is Uncommon, and the other is Legendary.

Once power ratings are reviewed and devs assign correct power ratings to mechs, weapons, mods, implants, the lot, matchmaking should fix itself assuming it uses power rating as the base.

Yup the power ratings are skewed, but unfortunately no the matchmaking is not purely based on SP, even in non-tournament games. That's why you see so many posts about huge SP differences in games.

Fixing the power ratings is definitely an important step though. It's been talked about a lot, and is one of the suggestions I made in a post a while ago titled "two simple, good enough patches for matchmaking". Sorry I am not linking to it.. I think pasting URLs sometimes causes the spam filter to auto ban people.

The crux of that post is that either of or a combination of a couple of top level matchmaking filters can easily address the problem to a sufficient degree. And if tankers are somehow lucrative for Plarium they don't have to change the bots the tanker faces.. just the people.

Yea I had a match against this bull crap, I don't even have 200 games and I'm told to put up with a HELL MODE GRIND FOR CREDITS AND A COINS against crap like this. No wonder this game never got an e sports set up. Whale clans would dominate unless they provided all the participating players with max accounts with everything unlocked.

So matchmaking isn't only based on power ratings, I get it, but could they be? I mean if the ratings are assigned properly (which on the face of it seems doable) then they should be enough. I don't mean total power rating, I mean things like average power rating per mech, or that combined with average power rating per mods, or per weapons, per "object" if you like. I think per mech average power rating (combining all other ratings like weapon, mod, implant) should take care of most mismatches currently being experienced?

Not sure about what the issue is with tankers? tankers being tanker builds or mechs or gameplay style?

a view from @CrystalDrew, @Deleted and @Velocity would be much appreciated.

Simple to make the game competitive. However that is not the matchmaking design. It is designed to influence the player into thinking they should spend $$ to aguire/upgrade their hanger to level the playing field. There is a reason for so many tiers for upgrading a mech/weapon and it is to stretch out the power of the battles. 3 stars going up against 5 stars. The thing is unless everything is maxed out(congrats you're a whale), the system will still put a player up against others that are more powerful... Then there is the issue of the Bots being used to win or lose the match.

So we all can come here and post ideas, but unless something drastic happens we won't see any major changes for sake of "Fairplay".

thanks for responding Band, may I just ask, how exactly do you know that "It is designed to influence the player into thinking they should spend $$ to aguire/upgrade their hanger to level the playing field." ?

thanks Night Fury, but could I ask that you share on view on this please? Can this be passed onto the dev team please?

IIRC the current matchmaking works like this. You can have the rank and grade of your gear plus or minus one. But the matchmaker doesn't care if you have max lancer and a rank 4 redeemer. It will see the highest rank mech in your squad is max and the highest grade is epic. That makes it think you can go max legendary, even though that's well above the power of anything you have. Unless that's changed. I think it used to work like it would count mechs and weapons together. Or maybe it still does.

Things should definitely be simplified to being power based though and give things their real power ratings.
