The way to stay in lower ranks/against smaller oppenents is to slow your xp crawl. Don't accept rewards with XP and you will fight easier opponents for a longer period of time. It won't stop your eventual rise in XP and eventual higher matchmaking but it will keep you fighting scrubs for longer.
