I appreciate  what you are saying about not being able to do much relative to more established players, but the rest doesnt ring true. 

There are personal events which cater to all classes, including novices, and in these, and clan events, its much easier to complete most,if not all of the levels, because with more strength comes bigger  obstacles.

If you are talking about specific competitions that are just for beginners, they are not going to be much different to those mentioned already, and its not going to help get those players that quit after 2 or 3 days, to stay,because they leave for other reasons, they realise the game is not for them,the sensible ones who find out how all consuming the game becomes,so leave.

Also if you play sensibly then you can do a lot at palace 5.

There is things you can do to contribute in competition events. Train troops and upgrade buildings and knowledge especially. Not only will you be contributing to your Clan but you will be getting stronger as well. Killing Invaders and Ghosts help as well, the points add up faster than you think. Look at the achievements you can do or get started on. Many bonuses apply that will help both you and the Clan you're in.

The importance of a good Clan cannot be overstated btw. Not only for the help you'll recieve but for the knowledge you'll gain from more expierenced players. An active Clan will make the game more enjoyable and easier to advance.
