Do not know how easy it would be do this, but by the same token several other items could be similarly be removed.
Are you advocating for something else instead, or an empty box?
Any way eventually all items or many become redundant later in the game, however they did increase the VIP levels before, so you might need them after all sometime.

Just advocating for the removal of VIP points themselves. tokens that give us VIP points when we trade them in are fine. They raise vip levels later we can actually use those. But I'm at a hard cap. You are right and I think that this was the complaint before, if the VIP points are not registered somehow somewhere,then you are effectively getting an empty box, which happens even at lower levels with the things that drop and seldom, If ever, get used.
There are also similar conditions where you get short changed and that could be addressed.
At the beginning, when the tutorial doesnt allow you to use the energy the hero acquires, and all the shaman experience points from upgrades and tasks that dont count till you can get a shaman at palace 12.
