I  used to wonder about this myself, but I thought it was clearer now, but perhaps it isnt.

Items have a gold value, so the total equivalent cost in gold is mentioned now, I dont think it was before,well not in quite the same way.

If you buy a pack, it might tell you how much gold there is, and then the amount that they also give you "free",which will be as gold that you can use in any way that you want.
