It stands to reason that if you demolish your buildings the experience points are lost. It's no skin of their nose if they inform you of anything or not, or, if you make an error of judgement.

When you got that big that quickly ,  you don't need soup , just live of your  reserves. 

It's  all a perfect expose of the reality of the game, its competitions, and the futility of it all.

The situation you described is provided for by the functionality of the game. Please note that if you demolish any building during the Competition, the points you earned will decrease. This situation is relevant only for those Competitions, during which points are provided for the construction/improvement of buildings. In addition, when buildings are demolished, you will lose a certain amount of your Influence.
