Yes, Troop gear for your siege is better than Ubba gear. Ubba gear dont have stats to support your troops during town defense. Its only for fortresses. This would be clan stronghold, fury towers, place of power and throne of jotunheim.

rprun000 - I don't know what level your town, hero and knowledge is but if you have no other troop types than siege or that they are by far the largest number and strength then I would use that gear and also have Einar the Free as shaman. Otherwise use lynx, which is for general defence(assuming both sets of gear are the same level) still with Einar as Shaman.

I like to buy Retreat (Large Coffer) as this gives me 1 x relocation and 1 x 24hr shield (it also gives 1 x change name and 1 x change town name). I try to remember to put on 2 x 24 hr shields before I log off as this helps avoid any inadvertent shield drops.

but if you like to use 2x 24h shields, you'd better buy a huge retreat. There you can get a 3-day-shield for only 850 golds more.
