Otherwise, the relative "height" wouldn't change since the ice displaces its volume equivalent of water, so when it melts it occupies the same amount of space as it did when floating.

In distilled water the water level will decrease.

As structure of ice occupies more space then water of  same amount that  the  ice  is  made  up  of  due  to  air  bubbles  trapped inside it.

1. The water nearest the ice cubes will get colder

2. The water level will likely decrease, as usually air is trapped in ice cubes from the freezing process

3. My pet cyberdog will likely try and drink from the darn thing.

4. There will no longer be ice in the cup
