Or just run FreeBSD or Linux instead of M$ Windows. They may not be 100% immune to viruses and other malware, but in general they are far more secure out of the box and you almost have to go out of your way to do something stupid before malware can infect your system.

Tips and Tricks:

1. ONLY have shortcuts on your desktop. Non-shortcuts can drop your PC's speed a lot. 
   
2. Keep your Anti-Virus up, always. (Except for specific downloads) 
   
3. Do not download stuff you think it might cause damage to your PC. 
   
4. Never forget to update your Anti-Virus, SpyBot etc. Just let them run while you sleep. 
   
5. Scan your PC often in case of any viruses. 
   
6. Whenever you see there's some program on your PC you don't like, just run iObit, and it'll remove it within no time! 
   
7. Whenever you think your PC is kinda full, run CCleaner to clean a lot of stuff up. 
   
8. Check your PC so now and then from the inside to see if it has any dust. Dust can cause damage to your PC. 
   
9. Troubles with Adware? Run AdwCleaner and remove them all! (Reboot most of all necessary)
