Just like all the rest of us in the game 
Well, depends what kind of siege it is...
For the usual 3 used as protectorates, 1 jav is enough. And when it's an enemy, depending on what his or his coalition reaction force is, more or less all your defense^^ But never too long, since the word spreads when there's a big siege somewhere, and there's always a stronger player ending up coming to wipe it out :)
