I tried to build a turret on my base and was told I had reached the construction limit for that item.
How does one go about increasing the limit to construct more defensive units

Because of the defense build limit it's not possible to further increase your power and for the moment there is no way to unlock this limit.

what is the limit of the "Base bonus defence" ?
To be honest I don't know exactly but I think that before you get there you can largely let your imagination draw your base.
