I have started trying to earn the needed champions for Justiciars fusion. So now I have a follow up question:

How much do the stage and difficulty level matter?

For example, one of the champions I need to earn is Warmaiden. She is a random drop from The Deadlands campaign. If I click on her picture on the fusion summoning page, it tells me where to earn her. If I click on the campaign icon in the "where to earn this champion" pop up screen then the game sends me to The Deadlands, stage 1 on Normal difficulty. Which is fine. I am just wondering why. Is stage one on Normal difficulty the best place to earn this drop? If I were to play stage 7 of the Deadlands on Brutal or harder difficulty then would that significantly improve or worsen my odds of getting this champion?

No worries. :) Glad it worked out. 

As you go up the difficulties you get a slight boost in drop rates, the number of the stage doesn't matter, though. Would generally try to farm for fusion champs in brutal since you'll get better XP, do some food farming if you can.

Was starting to think that maybe the champion had to be present in the stage to earn their drop. Glad that's not the case.
