I have found a solution for this bug.
So, somehow I have managed to equip an item when it was marked as new, but the marker never disappeared. So I've fixed it by opening the artifacts list, open the filters, select 'equipped', and then scrolling until the 'marked' artifact is found - which was equipped - and then just click on it and the marker is gone for good.
