I had almost 700 points earned on the last event, and received nothing at event end, including the yellow shard.

Last event there was no yellow shard reward at all. But if u achieve milestone reward then u should claim it manually. No rewards are given at the end of event.

That is very strange then, because it showed crystals as reward when you reached certain points (not talking milestones). First it was like 50 points for a green, and then 100 for a blue and then 120 for a purple and so on. 

Numbers might be wrong but it was clearly indicated you would receive a crystal as reward in the end. The more summons you had done the better crystal as a reward.
