I would wait until tomorrow for the event, personally. Any resources you can get your hands on for playing the game - especially early - are worth trying to plan around. 

Are you in a clan right now? If so the points you're seeing are from the Clan vs Clan tournament that is ongoing. 

unless you have a good reason to do it immediately (such as a progress mission), i'd wait until the training event starts. the points you're seeing now are for the cvc tournament which will still be going on tomorrow.
