I managed to do it with Altan in Lifesteal and Tyrant Ixlimor in... something tanky. 

Anything that has a good unkillable will work too like Paragon and whoever else you want.

Without some form of unkillable or damage negation it's entirely RNG based.

It took me 16 runs to get the boss to proc on Altan while ally protect was still on him.

Honestly, my recommendation is to just not bother until you get Paragon. Peril is just stupid, and you're basically just stuck rolling the dice otherwise. But fwiw, I did it with Ignatius and Martyr.

I been stuck on 12.7 for almost a year, lol.  Finally pulled paragon.  Paired with monster, but took 11 minutes so FAIL.  I'll wait til I get closer to mission and regear or change masteries.  maybe put paragon in a toxic set, lol.

I have a paragon but still haven't made it through, the 10 minute limit usually messes me up.  I haven't really focused on it either though.

It's the only thing I have left to 3 star on the campaign, duchess hard carried through all the other missions.
