As far as I'm aware, there IS no matchmaking system in TTA, you just get random opponents clustered around your current score level at each refresh. In this case an opponent who is quite strong for bronze 3 indeed, but then, tons of people can't be bothered to play TTA very actively, so they linger in mid-level tiers such as bronze 3.
Also, there are 44 999 possible opponents in bronze 3, not millions. ;)

The absence of a matching system can still be a laughable matching system. And to me (not being a pedant) in this context 44,999 is "millions" (in quotes).
