Normally with these kind of posts, the poster is making a mistake, yes... so:

1) it has to be 3 sets - not just 6 random pieces or a 2-piece set plus 4-piece set, no, it has to be 3 sets of 2 pieces each. 

2) all pieces must be 5 or 6 star

3) all pieces must be leveled up to level 12

Which is why these challenges can be quite annoying - if you have a much better set that you want to use but one piece happens to be 4 star, too bad, then you have to waste silver to equip a piece you don't want temporarily for the challenge, before switching back to the 4 star piece. Or if you have champions who do have all 5- and 6-star gear but they have a 4 piece set, again too bad, doesn't count.

Yes, I understood the move of 3 different sets

In the case that questions me I have fitted 3 sets:

1 destruction 2P

1 life 2P

1 defense 2P

the 6 pieces 5 stars and up 12, but it is not counted in the challenge tab, I am still at 0/4

The thing is that you have to equip 3 different sets BUT OF WHICH 2 PIECES ACTIVATES A BONUS
The destructive set the bonus is given with 4 pieces

Okay, yes, I didn't think that needed to be explained... when they say you should equip 3 sets, they mean equip 3 entire sets so you get the 3 set bonuses. Not parts of sets which are useless because you don't have enough pieces. 

The challenges and progress missions, in theory at least, are designed to teach you the right things to do to get ahead in the game. Although I remember some challenge or progress mission to put on attack percentage, gloves, chest *and* boots - which is just never a good idea.
