Marcurial set

Good morning everyone. I wanted to get a genuine opinion from the community. In your view, hasn't the Merciless set ruined the essence of the game? There’s no point in having any debuffs anymore (except for Provoke, as of yesterday); the only viable strategy is to build champions with multi-hit abilities in the Merciless set. Essentially, no other set makes sense—except maybe for speedsters looking to increase cooldowns—and the same goes for champions and debuffs (aside from Provoke). It’s the end of the road for heavy hitters who rely on single, powerful strikes. The damage is already done, and the set really ought to be scrapped entirely given how broken it is; but at the very least, get rid of that awful mechanic where it regenerates health while blocking damage and debuffs—regardless of whether Provoke is active. A single Live Arena match shouldn't last seven minutes.

Does it really make sense to block everything coming in for 3 turns—effects that keep regenerating? You can't steal, you can't block... What is the point of all the other sets? As far as I'm concerned, you've ruined everything. Curious to hear other opinions.

Annoying set but doesnt particularly bother me that much.  Was glad to see they made at least a small change to it already.

IMO Stoneskin was way worse when it launched.

All sets in this game get used up on your turn. But not the Mercurial set—and it grants Regenerate on top of that?! Come on, let's be serious; it makes absolutely no sense. The Skin* set might have been annoying, but there’s no comparison. And slapping a one-turn *Taunt* on it doesn't save the situation; the ultimate immunity this set provides is unheard of—not to mention flat-out boring.

I  am certainly facing it  more  in  classic arena  and  yes  its  annoying.....but I win most of the battles  I  face  opponents wearing it  so  for  now  I deal with it

@ShortOnSkillz Does damage reflected from a Reflect Damage Buff take down a Mercurial Stack?

If not that seems like a huge oversight, and a solid way to improve a buff that is almsost useless outside of Fire Knight.

Mhmm.  I know Brogni is semi-popular to counter it but I think its because the way his passive reflect is coded.

Brogni's Reflect has always worked differently than RD. He can place Smite off his Reflect as well.

I am interested in the actual RD Buff, and I suppose how Faultless Defense might interact as well.

For myself, I do not curse Mercurial.  I've learned to accept it, and I've even leaned into it.  I could not be in Silver IV tag team or silver at all without it.  I have maybe two current meta champs.  Yeah it's annoying going against with the other guy.  But I am the other guy now and it has radically improved my ability to compete in Arena and Siege.

My primary issue is that Mercurial was introduced as a PVP Meta-breaking-changing-defining gearset w/o any counter at the outset.  When Stoneskin was released, it had bombs as an initial counter, and HP Burn was added later.

Mercurial was released with no counter, and now they have added a very weak counter with Provoke, but landing Provoke doesn't even take off a Mercurial stack. Mercurial is still a gear set w/o an effective counter other than multi-hit AoE skills.  They could done a good multi-hit AoE toon as a 7-day login or a fusion, but nope, nada, nothing, zilch.

As far as PVP adaptation goes, I have just accetped that I will face Mercurial in every fight, and I build/pick accordingly, but that severely limits the toons from which I pick, which leads to a stale & boring PVP Meta.  I have yet to field a single toon for PVP in Mercurial, but I am sure that will change eventually.

There is no question that Mercurial has a larger impact on lower-level accounts beign able to advance further in PVP.  The gear effect is insanely over-powered, and Grim Forest is relatively easy so the gear is plentiful.

I totally agree with you there. They’ve just made everything more monotonous and rendered most of the sets and samples unusable... What a brilliant move!

I imagine the younger part of the community is actually proud of it. A lot of people probably start winning using this garbage set—the problem isn't that their stats improved (they probably even got worse), but simply that they're using this "god-tier" set that even auto-regenerates; meanwhile, they lose matches that shouldn't have posed even the slightest problem... There are 1,000 sets, 99 of which are useless, and 8,000 champions, yet only 5 are actually viable for the arena—haha.

I say it a lot:

The basic fact of the gaming industry is that 'power creep = profit'

Plarium focuses *almost* entirely on krakens; and after pulling shards krakens focus *mostly* on arena

You definitely pound that drum. However, the Krakens don't like Mercurial any more than I do, so catering to Krakens for PVP is not what Mercurial is about.

Which 5 champs and which set?

Just like Polymorph. They may have hated it when Poly was the Meta, but they sure put it on every PVP Toon.
