First, I think this would be a good way to help quell some of the backlash for the recent Hydra changes. I hope this is implemented somehow/someday,  it's a feature that would be REALLY appreciated:

Most of us have a ton of unused 5 Star Ores. We can't sell them and they're barely getting used for accounts that are mainly focused on rank 6 gear. So here goes, how about this?

Allow the use of Ten 5* Ores of a matching quality to a increase the rank of gear from 5 to rank 6! 

OR

Let us trade in Five 5* Ores to get One 6* Ore.

Either way I'd be happy with this. Hell, I'd even be happy with selling Ore for Silver/Gems. My preferred option would be to rank gear up from 5 to 6, especially with all the rank 5 Pinpoint pieces we're getting right now
